The best alternative to Smartsheet

The issue is not the software but the person setting it up. It is frustrating to contribute to the poorly designed Smartsheet because of the lead’s limited knowledge.

There is a lot to Smartsheet which can be intimidating to new users, and it’s not the easiest to pick up with so many options for customization. A user in the consumer goods industry with 2-10 employees

From experience, the platform is hot garbage. There is no centralized management of resources. The platform, fundamentally, is built as being user-centric… it’s been a huge headache to support the platform.

Reporting is an absolute joke, and integrating it with better reporting and compliance tools requires stepping up to the enterprise plan. It’s biggest shortcoming is its lack of even basic security… This is a platform that can be used to store very sensitive data, and the security is a bad joke.

I am using Smartsheet and I can’t recommend it. The lack of status updates that transfer from Smartsheet is incredibly annoying.

Even manually filling out the gantt chart is an exercise in frustration. They keep overriding the duration and start and dates I put in there. Seriously, after months of using this software it has been less useful and more irritating to use than putting all of our companies tasks in a manually updated spreadsheet. Also the app is unbearably slow. A user in the project management industry.

Learning Smartsheet can be tough at first. Some features need add-ons, which can be annoying and cost more. Pages don’t update in real-time, which can be a pain for teams needing instant updates.

I am unfond of a few of the tiny limitations. I wish that reports weren’t limited to 500 rows per page, and if that limit must exist, I wish there was a function to skip to a specific page. I have also had very lukewarm success with Data Uploader. It does not work as expected about 50% of the time…I waste a lot of time saving and resaving documents and deleting and recreating configurations just to get data to upload. I feel at every turn I run into a limitation of Smartsheet that is much easier to handle in other software. No scripting capabilities outside of workflow automation. Can’t copy column/cell types. Forms are extremely limited in terms of design. Cannot have questions side-by-side. Cannot auto-populate a field or dropdown based on another selection. Cannot wrap text in a column on a report. Cross sheet formulas work but are limited. A user in an unknown industry

The Gantt chart options are to be added more to get a better look ahead & the Cost is higher than that of competitive software. A project and program consultant in the Architecture & Planning industry with 10,000+ employees

The software seems pretty affordable, however when you take a closer look, it is a bit expensive compared to other project management tools. They also require a minimum of three users on any plan, so you’ll be paying more if you only need a platform for one or two users. For some reason, Smartsheet does not autosave your changes or update the page to reflect edits in real time.
